Do your programs have a religious foundation?

Many people wonder about this. But I assure there isn't any religious agenda. These programs are based on universal virtues that are recognized by all cultures and faiths as the building blocks of good character. Corrupt morals--prejudice, suspicion, hatred, selfishness, untrustworthiness, and tyranny--are the root causes of human suffering. I teach people how to be truly happy through the practice the virtues in everyday life.

All the world's religions teach the virtues, which is why people often confuse character education and religion. But religion includes much more than teaching virtues. Each religion has a specific founder, history, holy book and particular beliefs, rituals and dogmas. I do not teach comparative religion, nor the teachings of any one religion, though I am a religious person.

We live in a time when religious hatred is threatening to destroy the planet. Some people suggest that, if religion is such a cause of conflict, we are better off without it. On the one hand, I agree. But before we do that I suggest another approach. Let's explore the core Truths that all religions share. Among those Truths are universal virtues and the "Golden Rule". Religion can be one of the strongest motivators for using moral behavior in everyday life. It has awakened huge populations to a greater capacity for love, forgiveness, tolerance, courage and self-sacrifice. True religion has a unifying effect. But it is not necessary to be religious to be deeply committed to these character traits and religion is not part of the training.

  Are These Programs Spiritual?

Definately! People of all faiths and no faith have commented on the deeply transformative effect of this training. Human beings are unique in creation in that they are self-aware. The human spirit helps us transcend the conditions of our lives and discover true joy. This training helps us awaken to the magic planted in us at birth--the virtues. When we choose to use those powers, we become truly happy and we exert a beneficial influence in the world.

Each person has also been given unique talents and capacities. By attending to the yearnings of our hearts, to our sense of wonder, and by reflecting on the purpose of life, we gain understandings that give life meaning. In that sense, my programs are spiritual.
