Are You Ready to Apply For a Grant?

Before you begin writing a proposal, consider your organization's readiness to compete successfully. Evaluate your chances of success against the time and energy it will take to develop the proposal. If you can answer yes to most of these questions, then it is more likely that you will have a winning edge.
  1. Are we eligible for the grant?
  2. Does the grant fit our organization's priorities?
  3. Does the grant address the needs we have identified?
  4. Do our priorities and interests match the funders?
  5. Will the grant build on existing strengths and programs?
  6. Is the probablility good for any necessary consotium to develop?
  7. Are resources and time available to develop a quality proposal?
  8. Do we have staff capable of carrying out the project or can they be hired from the existing labor force?
  9. Are facilities available to carry out the project?
  10. Is there enthusiasm within our organization for developing and implementing the program?
  11. Does the project have sufficient administrative support?
  12. Is the amount of funding sufficient to justify the time and effort needed to write the proposal?
  13. Will the funding from this grant be enough to accomplish our objectives in the alloted time?
  14. Do we have the matching cash or in-kind contributions that are required?
  15. Can we continue the project after the funding ends?
  16. Are the odds for funding good (# of applicants vs # funded)?
