How do Grantmakers Evaluate Your Proposal?

Funding officials will first ascertain that the purpose of your project matches the funder's interests and the specific grant parameters. Next they will be concerned with your credibility as an organization and your perceived ability to carry out your project with integrity and skill. Some of the things that they will look for include:
  • An organizational "track record"--Demonstrated experience in managing programs similar to the one you are proposing
  • Evidence that you are known in your community and have local support
  • Evidence that the program addresses a proven need
  • A history of funding by other sources
  • Demonstrated sound fiscal management
  • A strong, involved board of directors, when applicable
  • Documentation of volunteer commitment--hours donated
  • Qualified staff
  • A realistic budget
