How Chanting Boosts Health

Chantshops involve in-depth training in using music for health and spiritual transformation. As with chant circles, no prior singing experience is necessary. The goal is to give you some devotional tools that you can use in everyday life. All chantshops include learning a basic repertoire of cross-cultural chants and sacred songs. Then, depending on the length of the session and the focus, training may also include:

Sound Medicine--unleash the healing power of your own voice
Sonic Massage-tone your chakras, clear subtle energy pathways and relax
Vocal prayer and meditation--breathing techniques, posture, toning, overtoning and gentle devotional movement.
The Mysticism of Sound-how to achieve luminous states of consciousness
The Physics of Sound-resonance, entrainment and the effect of sound on body, mind, spirit and culture.
The Yoga of Sound-four ancient streams of sonic mysticism from Hinduism.
Yoga Laughter-vocal exercises that boost the immune system, relieve depression, and create deep joy
Improvised chanting-devotional singing from your heart's core
A World of Harmony--sound weavings and songs that unite us
Self Discovery-uncover your own life song, the personal signature of your soul

Chantshop formats are flexible. Possibilities include:
A weekend retreat
A day-long intensive
Introductory chantshops of 2-4 hours
A series, over the course of a few weeks or months

For longer chantshops, it is a wonderful service to host a presentation for the public at the end. Under Nancy’s direction, chantshop participants can demonstrate what they have learned by including the audience in a devotional “concert” or chant circle.
