Sacred World Song—live!

Here are some live recordings of the January 20, 2007 chantshop held at Desert Rose Bahá’í Institute in Eloy, Arizona. These sound clips were recorded and engineered by Gerald Healy, a generous "on the spot" volunteer, who graciously has made them available so that you can get a little taste of what happens at Sacred World Song events. The resonant acoustics under the dome in the Round House created a spell-binding effect which can’t be captured on CD, but you’ll get the idea.

You’ll hear the joyful sound of thirty people who lifted their voices to “sing the blissful anthems of the spirit”. The lovely sounds made by this group were proof that chanting is a phenomenon readily available to all voices. We experienced the beauty of uplifting melodies, mantras and vocal meditations from a wide range of spiritual traditions; as well as the yoga of laughter, sonic massage (toning), gentle movement and breathing exercises.

Here are a few of the sacred sounds we shared that day.

  1. Ya Bahá’u’l-Abhá, by Sherry Ashberger
Traditional Bahá’í chant in Arabic meaning "O Thou Glory of Glories!”
  2. Jambo—West African greeting song
  3. Joyful Tidings of Light-- Adapted from The Hidden Words (#33)
by Bahá’u’lláh; music by Nancy Watters
  4. As Salaam Alaikum—“Peace be Unto You”; a traditional Muslim greeting
If anyone knows the composer or origins of this song, please write nancy@nancywatters.com)
  5. Didgeridoo & flute improvisation—Al Hollinger and Stephen Fletcher
